Lauren Banko

Lauren Banko is Wellcome Trust Research Fellow in the Department of History and the Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute (HCRI) at the University of Manchester. Her Wellcome research project focuses is titled 'Medical Deportees: narrations and pathographies of health at the borders of Great Britain, Palestine, and Egypt, 1919-1949.' With a PhD in Near and Middle East History from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London, she is a social historian specializing in 19th and 20th century Palestine, and the Arab Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean. She is interested in how borders and mobility control regimes shape the social lives, livelihoods, health, and emotions of transregional migrants.
